Doug Bartlett Self Portrait – Doug Moran finalist
July 19, 2010Nick Morris and David Bowers collaborative painting, Doug Bartlett ‘Self Portrait’ is a finalist in this year’s Doug Moran Art Prize.
The painting has been short listed in the portrait prize section. There are approximately 30 finalists. The Doug Moran Art Prize is the richest portrait prize in the world with the winner receiving $150,000.
We use the pseudonym Doug Bartlett for our collaborative artworks. Doug Bartlett represents our joint darker sides, so this ‘self portrait’ pays homage to the police identikit. Our faces have been merged to create a screen-printed image, in which we tried to capture the non-emotion and clumsy placement of features in identikits. Screen print captures the grainy, ’sordid’ quality of criminal iconography.
